As Christian solitaries we look first to the Desert Fathers and Mothers of the early Christian Church, St Francis and St Romuald, and especially St. Isaac the Syrian, and the Hesychast tradition of stillness.  Fathers Thomas Merton, Bede Griffiths, Henri Le Saux (Abhishiktananda)and Br. David Steindl-Rast guide and inspire our exploration of the monastic and eremitic charism, integrating the wisdom from the East in the ancient monastic tradition of Sannyasa.

We seek to know God through silence and stillness, and to open ourselves to the fulness of Truth and Life. Since this Divine Presence pervades all existence, we, though alone, are ever in this Presence, thus gratitude and reverence are cultivated at all times.

In the Church our life is hidden but we hope, in the words of Psalm 19 that though: “No speech, no word, no voice is heard yet their message goes out to all the earth.” Jesus promises that He is with us always and his desire for unity underlies our efforts to understand other spiritual traditions.

“In the last analysis truth is not a thing we possess, but a person by whom we must allow ourselves to be possessed.”
